Story

From the Montevideo juniors
to the Sapphire Tour.

Mireya Solen Voss grew up on the outdoor hard courts of Montevideo, Uruguay, where she came through the junior ranks at Montevideo Southcourt Academy with a reputation that arrived before she did: the lefty who attacks your serve from the very first point.

After joining the junior transition squad at the Río Plata Performance Institute, she moved her training base across the river to Buenos Aires and turned pro in 2023, at seventeen. The nickname followed quickly — The Montevideo Spark — for a game built on fast starts, early breaks, and momentum that is hard to switch off.

Her 2026 rise — from outside the top 60 to a career-high No. 48 in June — has come from improved court positioning and a stronger second-shot forehand after the return. At 20, with coach Lucía Berrin in her corner, the climb is just getting started.

Game

The return is the weapon.

Mireya plays as a left-handed aggressive returner — one of the rare players who treats her opponent's service games as her attacking platform. Her signature shot is the backhand return cross-court angle, taken early and aimed short, dragging servers off the baseline before the rally has even begun.

The tactic is simple and relentless: start return games aggressively, take the early break, then keep the scoreboard moving. Best on outdoor hard courts, dangerous on clay, and fearless everywhere — even when her own service games wobble under pressure, she backs herself to break again.
